Joseph Henry Simon, renowned Golden-Age writer and co-creator of Captain America (with Jack Kirby), passed away on Wednesday.
Joe Simon was not just a hometown hero, but a national one: the father of a cross-generational icon, and an innovator in his field. He was also the first Editor-In-Chief at Timely Comics, which would eventually become Marvel.
The above pic, drawn by him, hangs at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, delighting visitors upon the discovery that Captain America is also, in a way, a hometown hero like his co-creator.
Rest in Peace, Joe.
