Pulpo Fresco, Joyuda, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico
Nada mejor para superar la depresión de domingo por la tarde que un rico pulpo de Joyuda.
Y pa’ los viernes por la noche tambien!
No joke, octopus plus an ice-cold Medalla would make the perfect Friday relaxing treat.
“I drink Medalla Light for my health.”
Can’t fight the science, suckas :-p

Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish of fried, smashed plantians served with meat or seafood and broth. For our adaptation, we fried and smashed some plantains and served it with a creamy, spicy sofrito of onions, peppers, chilis, bay leaves, and sour cream along with slices of avocado. It’s a juicy, complex sandwich with layer upon layer of bright, spicy flavors.
And from the delicious garbage plates of my second home, we move onto a delicious-looking sandwich inspired by the cuisine of my heart and home.
Although I’d probably skip the chipotle powder and jalapeños or serranos… hell, I’ll just make my family’s sofrito recipe. That’s one of the beautiful things about Puerto Rican cuisine, it leaves room for the cook to express themselves and improvise.
I know as Americans there are plenty of stereotypes in terms of what we deem patriotic. I’m not un-patriotic, but I am much more Rochester-patriotic. I love the city I live in. The three things that most remind me of my city- Wegmans (the greatest grocery store in the universe), Genesee Beer (even though I am not a beer drinker, seeing that logo brings me back home), and garbage plates (Rochester’s delicacy).
I <3 you Rochester.
I go to Wegmans literally every day at every hour of the day, night, or dawn.
Yesterday, I had a Genny Light with my dad.
Two days ago, I had a delicious cheeseburger plate.
Life in Rochester without these treasures would be a very sad affair.
Things to do on a Friday night:
Get a pint, drink ‘til you’re singing and outing your homeys to the Dark Riders.
